SEED Grants
Teachers must continuously enhance their professional development to prepare students for jobs that do not yet exist, for technologies that have not yet been invented, and to solve problems we do not yet know are problems. SEED grants provide employees of Spotsylvania County Public School up to $500 for an activity that enhances professional growth. The grant provides financial assistance for the following professional development that include but are not limited to:
- College Coursework
- Conferences
- Training Courses
- Professional Certifications
Apply For A SEED Grant
The Spotsylvania Education Foundation accepts SEED grant applications once a year. Once the application period closes, complete application packages are reviewed by the Grants Committee. Recommended grants are presented to the SEF Board of Directors for final approval. Grant awards will be announced on April 21, 2025.
Grant Guidelines
Any Spotsylvania County Public School employee may apply.
Applicants may request funding up to $500.
Professional Development activities must meet the following criteria:
- Take place between the date of approval and the next academic year.
- Directly relate to the applicant’s job.
- Align with School Division initiatives.
Complete application packages must be electronically received at the email address specified on the application instructions by the announced due date and time.
All required components of the application must be included and legible (see yearly application for specific requirements). Only complete application packages will be forwarded to the review committee.
SEED Grants are competitive. The Grants Committee will review each proposal carefully to determine allocation of available funds. Specific selection criteria are covered in the grant application. Each proposal will be judged on its merits; funding (if any) will be awarded based on that review.
Grant funds will be directly dispersed to applicant. Any portion of the grant not expended must be returned to the Spotsylvania Education Foundation.
- Awarded applicants must provide documentation of successful completion of the professional development activity.
2022 SEED Grant Application will be available in October.

Other Grant Opportunities
Dr. Jerry Hill Leadership Grants
The Dr. Jerry Hill Leadership Grant provides one educator up to $1,000 each year to acquire training which will enhance their ability to take on a leadership role and impact educational change within in their school. Recipients are asked to work with his or her school faculty in a collaborative effort to promote professional growth and improve educational services.
IDEA Grants
Awarded to educators K – 12, IDEA (Innovatively Developed Educational Activity) Grants are available to educators for unique, creative and innovative proposals that positively impact the student learning experience. Since 2015, the Spotsylvania Education Foundation has awarded over $82,500 across 84 IDEA Grants.
